Why Jasmine?
Princess Jasmine, along with Belle, are my top two favorite Disney Princesses! I have wanted to make this outfit as early as 2010, but lacked the courage to do so. Many things intimidated me, such as the pants, strapless top, wig, and most of all... which version to do! There are so many renditions of Jasmine, that I was always unsure if I wanted to keep it accurate and classic, or be a little flashier.
Jasmine in the movie is timeless, but not all that impressive when translated literally and accurately into real life. Her outfit tends to resemble plain pajamas. Some other versions I like of her are her sparkle series outfit (such as seen in Sophia the First), Couture de Force version, and Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular costume.
It is very easy to overdesign the outfit and make it appear cheap and tacky with too much trim and distracting jewelry and gems. To avoid this, I tried to keep the look anchored to the clean, airy look of the original animation. But knowing me, I always have to do things a little bit flashier, so I tried to balance between the two: keeping the cosplay simple like the movie, but also glamming it up so it doesn't look too plain.
Overall I'm quite satisfied with how it turned out, and I'm sure I will revisit this look- my original one got damaged during a move, so unfortunately some parts need to be remade, and it is indefinitely retired because of it.

About This Costume
Though basic in appearance, her animated look is my favorite of her looks! The top is made out of spandex to give it that clean simple look, like in the movie. It is cinched in the bust area to give it a sweetheart neckline and to enhance the fit. The sleeves are mesh with a thin line of sequin trim that I hand cut from a wider trim that I already had. The original trim had three lines of sequins, but that was much too wide, so I carefully cut it down to one row and stitched it to the sleeve edges. The top is a fantastic fit- I never had to adjust it while wearing it!
The pants are just casa satin with elastic waistband and pant cuffs- quite comfy! The skirt is a separate piece that goes over the pants. It is Casa organza with a glitter design in which I glued 200 crystals to help bling it up! The waistband is spandex covered in stretch sequin fabric, with sequin trim. Like on the sleeves, I had to cut down on the width of the trim. The top of the skirt has one row of the trim, and the bottom is a double row.
The necklace, earrings, and shoes were all bought pieces. Eventually I will make my own shoes too! As for the headband, it is merely a $1 headband, already covered in glitter, with a glass cabochon glued on top. I custom made the setting for the cabochon using Worbla.
The wig was a team effort between me and Anya Braddock. The bangs and back roll are supported by foam pieces. The ponytails, which is a separate piece from the wig base, is a stocking filled with stuffing, and covered in wefts. It is sewn to a headband so that I can wear it on my head, instead of attaching it to the wig, where it would cause a great deal of stress from the weight. The ponytail segments have matching sequin bands from the sequin trim I used in the rest of the outfit. Luckily, I did not have to cut out any rows this time!
Why Jasmine?
There is a really cool art series by Pushfighter on DeviantArt which depicts various Disney princesses and characters in his style as various Star Wars looks, such as Jedi Snow White, and so on! His original art featured Jasmine in her blue look, but I figured the red suited this version of Leia's looks a bit better. I still do want to do the blue version though!
The group was planned to be for summer of 2014, but I was the only one to finish my look, so I ended up cosplaying this alone at ColossalCon. But it was still pretty fun! I would like to revisit this look with a better wig. I styled the base of this one way too high for my liking, and feel like it looks more like a Japanese hair style than Jasmine's very cartoony hair poofs.

About This Costume
This was sort of an unconventional build, but I'll do my best to explain it! All of the red parts were red chiffon from the Silky Solids collection at Joann, which is sadly a now discontinued fabric. It was my favorite chiffon too, boooo. The gold parts were all gold mystique from Joann also. They are stretch spandexes, so perfect for manipulating for her bikini and skirt belt, but still nice and shiny for photos!
The bikini base was made using bra cup inserts, and then piping covered in gold spandex was glued around the edges and onto the bra. I put some slip stitches on the gold tubing in key parts to make SURE it wouldn't come apart while I was wearing it, hahaha. The skirt is upholstery interfacing covered in gold spandex, with red chiffon stitched to it, and it snaps on at the side. There are some modesty bikini bottoms I made for it, which the skirt snaps to so that it won't spin around or creep up my waist. The bottoms are also used for two of my Supergirl skirts in the same way!
My headband is covered in red spandex, with a red glass cabochon on top. All of cabochons on the headband, headpiece, and skirt are all glass with the backs painted in nailpolish. The settings were made out of piping and gold spandex. My snake armband was made out of Instamorph thermoplastic from when I did red Jasmine!
Why Jasmine?
I was inspired to do this outfit from the Paint the Night parade, of which I used to work on! The parade features light up costumes of various costumes, and one of my two fave princesses is in it, but I wondered what Jasmine might look like if she were in it, so that lead to me coming up with this original concept that makes use of various elements from her Sparkle Series art design as well!

About This Costume
For this Jasmine look, I used the same patterns and some parts of my classic animated look. The pants are lined with a silky satin, and overlaid with a gorgeous deep teal sequin. For the top, I lined it with a similarly colored spandex that I had on hand from my first attempt at making Sailor Neptune!
The lights in the pants are tacked onto the sequin fabric, and the battery packs are hidden in pockets on the side of the pants, allowing me to turn them on and off. There's even enough room leftover in the pocket to slide a golden lamp into!
Reused parts include my jewelry, headband, and shoes. The shoes were actually from an Anti-Spiral Nia cosplay that never came to fruition, and the gold cuffs were from an also unfinished Panty Anarchy cosplay. For Halloween, I wore the wig without the ponytail, so that I could be more comfortable and not have to worry about it getting messed up.
Why Jasmine?
This was the very first outfit of Jasmine I ever made, and I think I wore it to ColossalCon 2014 for all of like maybe one hour, and didn't really get any photos of it. In fact, I still haven't, and now it has been so long that I would much rather just remake the whole thing since I've learned so much since I made this many years ago! Too bad they discontinued the Silky Solid red chiffon, because it was super perfect for Jasmine pants, it was so soft and smooth! *sobs*

About This Costume
This was my first attempt at a Jasmine costume that unfortunately did not really make it much of anywhere beyond some progress photos. Nonetheless I'm including it here since for some reason it is one of my most popular Jasmine looks, even though it was only these pics I had shared! I intend to remake it at some point though! The top here was made out of peachskin, and the pants out of a silky chiffon, with a spandex waistband and build in modesty bikini. I made the ponytail holder and gold snake arm band out of Instamorph thermoplastic, and then spray painted them gold.
