Why Madame President?

I admittedly probably watched Golden Boy much younger than I should have given its content, but recently introduced a friend to it and rewatched it along with them, and instantly thought: "Wow. How have I never cosplayed from this ridiculous show?" Because, that's how cosplayers think, apparently. Our creative cogs are always turning!

I quickly checked off that I had everything on hand to do Madame President (save for a black clutch, which I picked up from Gabriel Brothers on the way to MatsuriCon) so I decide to whip together this throwback cosplay in just a single night before the convention! It helped to motivate me too that Kwanye Cosplay was willing to cosplay Kintaro Oe with me, and people LOVED the cosplays! It made my last-minute costume idea so worth it!

Also, shout out to lace front tape for keeping everything in place- and I'm not talking about the wig, here. XD

About This Costume

The romper was an interesting pattern challenge, but one I was definitely determined to tackle. I made the shorts three different times before settling on a fit and pattern style that I liked. The first iteration had a side seam, and you know me and side seams- if I can avoid them, I will! It just makes the outfit look SO much sleeker! The second iteration was just a little too tight on the hips and too loose on the back, but without a side seam to take in at, I had to recut the pattern, since the angles were off (plus I couldn't let out anywhere at the hips).

Third time's the charm, because I finally nailed it, and added the top pieces, which were a modified version of my Selena Quintanilla top. In fact, I pulled the shorts pattern from her pants pattern as well. After a while, all my patterns are just frankensteined off other patterns I've done, ahaha. The collar was just a long rectangle with elastic inside that hooks at the back neck, and I also made little drawstrings for the back of Madame President's romper. The shoes I had on hand from Sailor Mars and Jessica Rabbit, and the wig is also intended to be used for another upcoming cosplay.
