Why Reggie Rocket?

Growing up, Rocket Power was a pretty well known show in my neighborhood, because all the kids wanted to be talented at sports like the kids in the show! I took up roller blading, and also got a scooter because I wanted to be like them too! Of course, my main inspiration was always Reggie. I always thought she was so cool, and even made my own "zine" in middle school to be more like her!

I thought doing a  "future version" of Reggie would be sort of fun! Since, yanno, I'm not a middle school kid anymore, haha. I wanted to change the outfit up a bit to imagine Reggie if she were my age, while still keeping her classic and iconic style that we all love and recognize!

About This Costume

Reggie was a mostly found item cosplay, with the exception of the crop top. I actually wanted to buy this piece too, but didn't find any I felt suited the look. So I made mine using the backside of the hot pink mystique spandex from Joann Fabric, which, uh, isn't the most comfortable feeling, having foil dots on the inside of the shirt, haha. Go figure a week after making this, I find the EXACT crop top I was trying to find at H&M, haha. I also created the appliqué out of spandex, and outlined the yellow rocket with paint pen.

The pants were purchased, and I made no alterations to them. The wig was originally an ombre purple wig, which I cut the bright fuchsia ends off of to square off and mimic Reggie's hairstyle. The sports glasses were also purchased, and I painted the frames red using nail polish, since I couldn't find any glasses in red that I preferred.

The roller skates were actually a pair I had owned since middle school, and they still fit! (I have small feet, lol.) Too bad for me, I never really learned how to skate in them! So I'm sure my form in some of these photos isn't the greatest, haha. But in 2020, I actually picked up roller skating as a hobby, and for the first time actually know how to skate! I wonder if that will translate to me being able to roller blade? Hmmm, I'll have to try it again, I guess!
