For being a non-Disney heroine, Anastasia certainly has all the merits to be one! Beautiful, sassy, tragic, and a killer wardrobe! Plus, of course she gets the cute guy too! While I enjoy all of her many outfits, her blue opera gown was always one of my favorites. It's so classic and timeless, and a refreshing take from cupcake ballgowns.
Initially I was inspired to make this dress by finding $1 blue chiffon that had silver thread subtly woven throughout at Walmart of all places. I thought it looked perfect for her capelet pieces, and then I remembered I had two yards of Premium velvet from another project that I never started! This was one of those projects that presented itself to me, rather than the other way around!

About This Costume
Anastasia's blue dress was made in a luxurious velvet, and lined with a textured "Simply Silky" satin. It has an invisible zipper in the center back. The capes are five yards of costume chiffon, bedazzled with hundreds of hand applied Swarovskies. The capes button onto the dress at the back, and also have loops at the end that I can attach to my gloves when I am traveling.
The satin gloves are bridal gloves ordered on Amazon. The necklace and hair band are from Icing, and the earrings I made using beads and pieces from Joann.
It all seems relatively simple, but sometimes simpler costumes can be deceivingly hard, especially when they're meant to be glamorous pieces, such as this. I'm not entirely happy with the whole look, but at the same time, I can't buy this Premium Velvet or the Silky Solid used in the lining anymore, as Joann discontinued it, so I don't know if I can really out-do it without those two materials in my hands again!
